Description:
Abstract:
This data set contains boundary features and polygon features of watershed areas in the seven-county Southeastern Wisconsin Region, covering Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha Counties. The data set consists of three separate types of data: major watershed boundaries, subwatershed boundaries, and subbasin boundaries. The features were delineated on large- and medium-scale topographic maps and captured by board digitization. The polygon features are identified by the name of the watershed, subwatershed, or subbasin. The digital map files are available in ArcView shapefile or ArcInfo coverage format.
Purpose:
This data set was collected to provide an inventory of watershed, subwatershed, and subbasin boundaries in the Southeastern Wisconsin Region and to be used for broad regional planning purposes.

Access_Constraints:
There are no legal prerequisites for accessing this data set. Potential users should contact the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission GIS Division.
Use_Constraints:
This data set was prepared from large- and medium-scale topographic mapping covering various years and may not reflect current watershed conditions. Site investigation may be necessary to determine current extent of watershed boundaries.

Data_Quality_Information:
Logical_Consistency_Report:
The line and polygon features in this data set were collected by board digitization of information delineated on large- and medium-scale hardcopy topographic mapping. The features were verified with GenaMap software routines to insure completeness and integrity of lines and areas. The data set contains lines that intersect where intended, there are no lines that are entered twice, there are no overshoots or undershoots, and all areas are completely described. The area features are topologically structured polygon data with nodes at all intersections.
Completeness_Report:
This data set was delineated by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission Environmental Division and digitized by the Commission's GIS Division. To the best knowledge of the Commission GIS Division, this data set includes all of the intended features digitized from the source hardcopy topographic maps and other source materials.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
This data set was collected from original delineations of watershed, subwatershed, and subbasin boundary lines on large- and medium-scale hardcopy topographic maps. The boundary lines were delineated on 1:24,000 scale USGS topographic maps for some areas of the Southeastern Wisconsin Region, and were delineated on 1:2,400-scale and 1:1,200-scale hardcopy topographic maps where these maps are available for the seven-county region. All delineations were prepared according to the National Map Accuracy Standards of the source topographic mapping. Therefore, in areas prepared from 1:24,000-scale mapping, ninety percent or more of all well-defined planimetric features are within 40 feet of their true position on the ground. In areas prepared from 1:2,400-scale mapping, ninety percent or more of all well-defined planimetric features are within 6.6 feet of their true position on the ground. In areas prepared from 1:1,200-scale mapping, ninety percent or more of all well-defined planimetric features are within 3.3 feet of their true position on the ground.

Process_Description:
This data set was collected by board digitization of watershed features delineated on large-scale (1" = 100' and 1" = 200' ) and medium-scale (1" = 2,000') hardcopy topographic maps. Some boundaries were recompiled on medium-scale planimetric maps for board digitization.

Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
This data set consists of a set of three distinct types of data in separate digital map files: major watershed boundaries, subwatershed boundaries, and subbasin boundaries. The major watershed features include portions of watershed boundaries that occur outside of the seven-county region, whereas the subwatershed and subbasin features include only those boundaries that occur inside the seven-county region. The features were delineated on large- and medium-scale topographic maps and captured by board digitization. The polygon features are identified by the name of the watershed, subwatershed, or subbasin. The digital map files are available in ArcView shapefile or ArcInfo coverage format. All files consist of graphic map features only and do not contain attributes at this time.
Entity_and_Attribute_Detail_Citation:
Detailed information about the features included in this data set are contained in a document describing the watershed digital map files and written by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission GIS Division.
