This TIFF file is geo-registered to State Plane Coordinate System (Illinois East, SPCS Zone Identifier 1201), NAD 27. Planar units are in feet. The accompanying TFW file is necessary to view this image geospatially.
This map was Scanned on a Umax 2100 flatbed scanner at 300 DPI.
The "Regional Greenways and Trails Implementation Program" was accompanied by a map called the "Map of Greenway And Trail Opportunities and Summary". This regional map provides a 1997 update of existing and proposed major open space and trails, and recommendations for revised and new greenway and trail corridors and linkages. Proposed trail corridors are conceptual; final alignments correspond to county and municipal planning efforts.
A greenway is a corridor of open space. Greenways vary greatly in scale, from narrow ribbons of undeveloped landscape that run through urban and suburban development, to wide corridors that incorporate diverse natural and cultural features. A greenway can be land- or water-based. Greenways can incorporate both public and private property, can be recreational, and/or can function primarily for environmental protection. Overall, a greenway network will protect natural and cultural resources, provide recreational opportunities, improve and sustain hydrological functions, and enhance the natural beauty and the quality of life.
In addition, a DBF file accompanies the geo-registered TIFF. This file contains explanations of the Regional Greenways Codes that are present on the georegistered TIFF.
The TIFF and DBF file are also accompanied by an Adobe PDF file. This file contains the "Summary" that exists on the back of the map. In addition to the "Summary", the Adobe file contains a graphical representation of the Regional Greenways Codes that exist in the DBF file above.
Map was prepared by: Ders Anderson, Openlands Project; Richard Mariner and Lori Heringa, Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission. Special Assistance was provided by Hubert Morgan, Kim Soulliere (NIPC), and the many participating local government staff in the region. Original map brochure was prepared under the graphic direction of Eva Wurm (NIPC). Original map was prepared by the Department of Geography, Laboratory for Cartography and Spatial Analysis, Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois.
The map was scanned and georegistered by David Clark and Laura Barghusen of NIPC.
Additional funding for the creation of the Water Trails Plan & Map Summary came from Kraft Foods and the Grand Victoria Foundation.
