Description:

Abstract:

This data set depicts the nature preserves of Illinois, digitized from USGS 7.5 minute quadrangles. A nature preserve is an area of land or water in public or private ownership that is formally dedicated pursuant to the terms of the law, to be maintained in its natural condition. Boundaries are approximate and do in some instances signify property boundaries. Users requiring definitive data on boundaries should contact the Division of Natural Heritage, 600 N. Grand West, Springfield, IL 62702 (217) 785-8774.

Purpose:

These data are appropriate for use on local and regional thematic analysis and are not official in the sense of determining the location of the preserve boundaries. Data are not accurate enough to be used as a geodetic or engineering base.
