Description:
Abstract:
This data set contains polygon features of soil mapping unit boundaries obtained by the digitization of soils maps included in the published soil surveys of the seven counties in the Southeastern Wisconsin Region.
Purpose:
This data set was collected to provide an inventory of soils in Southeastern Wisconsin and to be used for broad regional planning purposes.

There are no legal prerequisites for accessing this data set. Potential users should contact the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission GIS Division.
Use_Constraints:
This data set was prepared from county soil surveys published by the U. S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service (now known as the Natural Resources Conservation Service). The data are therefore subject to the use and applicability constraints of the original source information.

Data_Quality_Information:
Logical_Consistency_Report:
The polygon features in this data set were collected by board digitization of maps in the published soil surveys of the seven counties in Southeastern Wisconsin. The features were verified with GenaMap software routines to insure completeness and integrity of lines and areas. The data set contains lines that intersect where intended, there are no lines that are entered twice, there are no overshoots or undershoots, and all areas are completely described. The area features are topologically structured polygon data with nodes at all intersections.
Completeness_Report:
This data set was digitized from soil survey maps by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission GIS Division. To the best knowledge of the Commission GIS Division, this data set includes all of the intended features digitized from the source hardcopy soil maps.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
This data set was collected from hardcopy maps published in county soil surveys. Therefore, the soil mapping unit boundaries contained in this data set are only as accurate as the original soil survey maps prepared at 1:15,840 scale.

Process_Description:
This data set was collected by board digitization of features from hardcopy maps contained in the published County soil surveys. The soil maps were referenced to plots of U.S. Public Land Survey System section corners and section lines prepared for each mapsheet, and the soil mapping unit boundaries were digitized and verified into polygons with appropriate soil mapping unit tags or labels.

Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
This data set consists of a set of digital map files containing soil polygon boundaries with soil mapping unit identifiers or tags. The digital map files are arranged to cover U. S. Public Land Survey System (USPLSS) sections, for a total of 2,732 files in the section-based series, and are also arranged to cover USPLSS townships, for a total of 83 files in the township-based series. The soil polygons are identified by a tag or label consisting of the soil mapping unit name. The original digital map files are in GenaMap format and are also available in ArcView shapefile format. All files consist of graphic map features only and do not contain attributes at this time. Soil attribute information can be obtained from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Entity_and_Attribute_Detail_Citation:
Detailed information about soils features and attributes are contained in county soil surveys, published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service (now known as the Natural Resources Conservation Service), for the following seven counties in the Southeastern Wisconsin Region:

Kenosha and Racine Counties: December 1970; Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties: July 1971; Ozaukee County: September 1970; Walworth County: February 1971; Washington County: June 1971.
